The National University Bulldogs upset the defending champions University of Santo Tomas Tiger Spikers, 21–19, 14–21, 18–16, in UAAP Season 80 beach volleyball competition at Sands by the Bay last Oct. 6.

Down by three in the deciding set, 11–14, Bryan Bagunas and James Natividad tied the match at 16-apiece. Bagunas sealed the match with a kill, 18–16.

“Kung sino ang kumurap dyan kahit anong score pwedeng mabaliktad yung game,” UST head coach Paul Jan Doloiras said.

“Last one (point) na kami, pero pumikit kami,” he added.

It was UST’s first defeat since Season 78 finals match against Ateneo.

Earlier that day, the Tiger Spikers cruised past Adamson, 21–14, 21–12, while the Lady Spikers are still unblemished after dismantling the Ateneo Lady Eagles, 22–20, 21–15.

Tiger Spikers dropped to 2–1 record behind Bulldogs’ perfect 3–0 record. The Lady Spikers led the women’s division with FEU, at 3–0.

Day 3 of the competition will continue today, Oct. 7, at the same venue.
