In a time characterized by escalating privacy concerns and rampant internet censorship, emerging projects like tomi aim to redefine our digital landscapes. But the development of these disruptive technologies doesn’t occur in isolation. We at tomi recognize that our journey to digital liberation isn’t a solo endeavor; it’s a collective voyage. This idea sits at the heart of our decision to sponsor and actively participate in Korea Blockchain Week 2023. But what does this event represent for us? It’s more than a chance to parade our latest advancements or grab a few headlines. This prestigious event is like a hot pot of opportunities: a venue where the past, present, and future of blockchain technology all collide into a treasure chest of possibilities.

Korea Blockchain Week is not just any old event; it’s Asia’s largest blockchain event and serves as a representation of the blockchain community at large. A place where you can bump into a potential collaborator in a hallway, engage with your industry heroes during panel discussions, and perhaps even find that missing puzzle piece for your project during a casual dinner conversation. It’s where different threads of blockchain innovation are woven into a larger tapestry of change.

And for us, this tapestry isn’t complete without contributing our own threads: a user-driven, alternative internet where privacy, self-governance, and freedom from surveillance aren’t just ideals but core features. So, as we attend Korea Blockchain Week, we aren’t just showcasing our technology; we are absorbing, engaging, and co-creating, fortified by the belief that community-driven action can create an ecosystem far greater than the sum of its parts.

Why Skill Enhancement Matters to Us

We’re weaving together the best of Web 2.0 and Web 3.0 technologies, integrating features that range from TCP/IP and DNS to Starkware and Ethereum. But this scale and complexity in building a fully decentralized alternative internet require an ongoing education process and perhaps even a hunt for further talent, and what better place to acquire that talent than at industry events?

We already had Grace Rachmany, DAOwl’s appointed DAO expert, representing tomi at Metafest earlier this year. An event bringing together DAO experts from all over the world to discuss, collaborate and engage, an event that we also sponsored! And it proved fruitful, as you can see by the many new faces now present in the #DAO Channel on our Discord. We are now well on our way to bring in the DAO experts needed to help create the specifications for the many DAOs needed to fulfill tomi’s mission, something you can read more about in Grace’s guest post here on the Medium.

Because when you’re building an internet with multiple technology stacks, even we can’t be experts in everything. Events like Korea Blockchain Week or Metafest offer a learning environment where our development team and representatives can absorb insights from all over the industry. In the end, conferences and events like this facilitate collaborations that help us advance our mission. Through these global stages, we’ve found partners and allies who share our vision. Each event, for us, is a catalyst for future growth, adding new dimensions to our project.

A Global Stage for Global Problems

Censorship and privacy concerns transcend geographical borders; they are global problems, demanding comprehensive solutions. Yet, tackling these issues often requires focused, localized strategies. Take China as an example — how can we introduce the concept of the tomiNet when it faces the Great Firewall? Or consider Russia, where stringent internet controls are similarly in place. One approach would be to establish a local presence: a representative deeply attuned to each region’s unique challenges and needs. This individual could develop tailored strategies to educate residents on how to safely access the tomiNet, offering them practical means to sidestep governmental controls and enjoy the freedom of a decentralized internet.

Right now it’s impossible to say how these solutions would look like, or work, in practice. But it is an interesting thought to have, and an important one to consider for our mission. That is why it’s so important that we continue to participate at events all over the world, so that we can connect with individuals and organizations that share our vision, which is essential for the construction of a parallel web that spans across nations and cultures. Who knows, maybe it’s at one of these events that we will be able to meet that one person that has the golden ticket that we have been looking for.

Decentralizing Connections: Our Networking Strategy at Korea Blockchain Week

It’s often said that in the crypto industry, your network is your net worth. For projects like tomi, a well-chosen network can indeed be a priceless asset. This brings us to the significance of being an active participant in industry-specific events like Korea Blockchain Week. One of the most salient features of Korea Blockchain Week is its attendee list: a who’s who of blockchain innovators, savvy investors, and tech evangelists. tomi, by virtue of being one of the event’s major sponsors, is strategically positioned to engage with these industry heavyweights.

Imagine a meetup between the tomi development team and experts in DAO governance. Such a connection could yield invaluable insights into further democratizing the tomiNet. Or consider a fireside chat between tomi’s founders and venture capitalists looking to invest in groundbreaking technology. The possibilities for new partnerships are virtually endless.

The Key Takeaway

Given the conference’s overarching theme of redefining the future of finance, tomi’s participation is not just an opportunity but a necessity. Our presence sends a strong message that we are not merely an observer, but an active player in shaping the decentralized internet landscape of tomorrow.

Because at the end of the day, networking at conferences is not just about distributing business cards and rehearsing elevator pitches. For tomi, it’s a calculated strategy aimed at accelerating our mission to provide a free, secure, and democratic internet. Each handshake, each conversation, and each panel discussion brings us one step closer to turning this vision into a reality.

The Ripple Effect: What This Means for the tomi Community

Participating in events like Korea Blockchain Week or Metafest isn’t just a stepping stone for us; it’s a springboard for our entire community. Every connection we make, every partnership we forge, and every piece of knowledge we acquire has a ripple effect that ultimately benefits everyone involved with tomi.

This is not just about tomi as a project; it’s about you — the user, the developer, the investor, and the visionary. Your involvement in our ecosystem enriches it, and by scaling the heights of the blockchain world, we’re essentially elevating the platform on which you stand. Whether it’s through new features inspired by industry innovations, partnerships that offer more utility and interoperability, or educational content that empowers you to take control of your digital life, our efforts in the global arena directly feed back into enhancing your experience with tomi.

Our international appearances serve as a beacon, attracting like-minded individuals and organizations who can enrich our community with their expertise, resources, and passion. They’re not just contributors but collaborators, adding layers of value that go beyond code or capital. And this collaborative ethos, one of mutual growth and shared victories, is what will propel us — and by extension, you — into a future where the internet is truly of the people, by the people, and for the people.
