We’re delighted to announce that Tomo Wallet is migrating onto Cubist’s non-custodial wallet infrastructure, CubeSigner.
CubeSigner safeguards signing keys in secure hardware — your keys never leave the secure hardware, even when you’re using your wallet to sign transactions — and will provide a streamlined non-custodial experience across the Tomo mobile app, browser extension, and embedded wallet.
We’re particularly excited to take security to an even higher level and share the different ways we will use CubeSigner to help users lock down their wallets while unlocking new capabilities like first-class support for signing Bitcoin Taproot transactions.
Your Tomo wallet is already protected by robust monitoring and risk management features built by Tomo. We recognize the challenges and potential risks involved, so we are committed to going a step further to protect not only the underlying wallet key but also the assets in your wallet. By soon allowing you to bind different security policies to your key and enforcing these policies in CubeSigner, we will ensure enhanced security for your assets.
As an example, we want to ensure that only you can export your key. And we want to ensure this even when you use any dapp that embeds Tomo — you shouldn’t have to worry about malicious dapp developers or cross-site scripting bugs resulting in key theft (like with other embedded wallets). This is where the built-in key export policy comes in: This policy will (1) restrict exports to the Tomo app and extension, (2) require a second factor to initiate the export, and (3) impose a mandatory waiting period — a time lock — which gives you plenty of time to notice and cancel an unauthorized request, and (4) require a second factor (again) to complete the export from the secure hardware after the waiting period. It is easy for you to export your key, but not so much for attackers.
