Thank you for your thoughts. Yes, design is an essential way of thinking. Matt and I, as architect and educator looked at the rate of change in the late 70s and asked ourselves, What could we do to help humanity stay required with the rate of change and complexity? One of our responses was to create the DesignShop process and method. We created a process for deep, inclusive collaboration which included the beginning of a new modeling language. One of our slogans became, “The future by design, not default”. In 2005, when we were working with the World Economic Forum, we used this slogan as a major theme for the workshops we were doing in Davis. The word design caught on like wildfire. Suddenly, everyone seemed to be experts in design thinking. (We still wonder what is meant by that phrase!). Indeed, in a moments notice, the word became an all encompassing word for consultants and others wanting to sell their wares. Now Mico, as you say, It is time to get down to the authenticity for what we mean by the word, design. Your visuals, and references, while we have some differences, reveal a new framing, one that comes from the future. Thank you!
