Join Evgeni Finkelstein and discover Sergei Rudnev’s arrangement of the Russian Folklore song Lipa Vekovaya” (The Old Lime Tree). Having worked on the piece with Rudnev himself, Evgeni provides his personal insights into its interpretation, and shares what knowledge he acquired about the piece while studying with Nikita Koshkin.

The lesson begins with a brief introduction to the history of the composition. Evgeni then shares some key interpretive ideas, mainly the importance of the lyrics of the song, the pulse of the piece, balance between the supportive texture and the melody, and connection in the melodic line.

After giving his more general thoughts and advice, Evgeni delves deeper into the different sections of the piece, paying close attention to the more interesting or difficult passages.
