This week, Igor has been having a once in a lifetime opportunity hanging out in Havana with an absolute legend of the classical guitar world… Leo Brouwer! 🙌 Check out recent updates from Igor’s trip so far, and learn more about the lessons soon to come from the Maestro on tonebase!
Even in the early stages of tonebase, we knew we had to find a way to film a series of lessons with Maestro Leo Brouwer. After many months of coordinating with his team, the opportunity finally presented itself, and last Friday, Igor hopped on a flight for Havana! 🇨🇺
Since arriving, communication with Igor has been sparse as WiFi is tricky to come by and cell service non-existent. However, he recently was able to make it online to share his experience so far with all of you!
According to Igor, the first day of filming was a huge success! ️🎉 The Maestro covered four of his most famous pieces including his Estudios Sencillos, Un Dia de Noviembre, Cuban Landscape with Rain, and of course, the legendary Sonata. We chose this repertoire with the intention of offering insights on his works for every skill level — beginner, intermediate, and advanced alike!
Tomorrow, Igor will take a seat himself with the Maestro and conduct a classic “tonebase style” interview — casual conversation about deep topics including advice for young players, his relationships with Julian Bream and Toru Takemitsu, and his love for heavy metal guitar! 🤘🤘
Apart from that, you can count on Igor enjoying the beautiful city of Havana, and of course, thoroughly exploring the food and drink options Cuba has to offer!
