As avid podcast listeners ourselves here at tonebase, we have been itching to start our own for quite some time. We even made a couple failed attempts before realizing we needed to bring in some serious outside talent… Enter David Steinhardt, a talented guitarist himself and a voice made for radio! In this post, David gives a brief intro to himself and what’s to come on the podcast in Season 1.

The first four tonebase Podcast guests!

A couple of years ago, I came up with the idea of starting a classical guitar podcast. I finally got around to starting Classical Guitar & Beyond this past December and was very humbled to have guests ranging from Thomas Viloteau to Zoran Dukic on the show.

Fast forward to this August when the tonebase guys asked if I’d like to run a podcast with them, and of course I said “yes” immediately!

For our first season, we have an exciting roster of guest artists. Episode 1 featured Scott Tennant, talking about his most recent solo CDs, Mysterious Barricades and The Segovia Sessions.

It was fascinating to hear his approach on French Baroque music, along with the story of recording on Segovia’s magical 1969 Jose Ramirez. I was very happy to have access to a preview-track of the soon to be released record — the sound Scott produced on this guitar is magnificent.

You can listen to this very first episode above on YouTube, on Spotify, iTunes, Soundcloud, or at the bottom of this post!

Next week’s episode features Judicael Perroy, with topics ranging from his pedagogical approach, musical inspirations, and the future of the classical guitar. Other Season 1 highlights include Xavier Jara on his GFA win, Bill Kanengiser on his most recent commission with Sergio Assad, and David Tanenbaum on his collaborations with Henze, Reich, and Takemitsu.

I’m very much looking forward to joining the tonebase team. I hope to bring insightful and engaging conversations with each guest artists, while still cracking the occasional joke!
