How Medium Should Stop AI

How I’d attack the problem

The amount of AI-generated junk infiltrating Medium is pissing off a lot of authors here. Some are complaining of diminished earnings, which may be legitimate if their writing is in areas frequently selected by AI members. Others are justifiably annoyed by AI comments and being shown AI posts in their feeds.

I think Medium may not be doing all they could. I know they are making an effort, and I’m sure they fully recognize the danger. But perhaps there is more that could be done.

These behaviors are all identifiable by algorithms, though humans would make the final decisions for some.

Note: it’s possible that Medium is already doing some or even all of these things but lacks the compute cycles to stem an extremely powerful tide. The only thing that could solve that is more money. Personally, I’d be willing to donate part of my earnings to help.

Don’t allow any AI, paywalled or not

There’s an old adage that applies here: bad money drives out good.

Allowing non-paywalled AI dilutes the value of human writers.
