I Stepped on Tux’s Bushy Tail
It was an expensive crunch
Tux is always underfoot, especially when food is served, not just his cat food. He prances, leaps, paws me, and weaves in and out of my legs. He wants whatever food is being prepared.
The other morning, I stepped on his expansive tail. He screamed. Scooping him up to comfort him resulted in him hissing and biting me, a first in our 14 years together.
Tux’s morning routine is to eat breakfast and retire to the living couch. Not the morning of the assault upon his tail. He disappeared, leaving his meal untouched. Hours later, I found him hiding in a far corner of my closet.
The situation did not improve the following day. He was still hiding but would eat if the food was carried to him. Later, my husband successfully coaxed Tux out of the closet, but when he attempted to pick the cat up, Tux hissed, growled, and ran away.
Time to call the vet.
These days, calling for a same-day medical appointment means you are directed to the ER. We were. There is a hefty surcharge for the ER and hours of sitting on a hard bench with a meowing cat for company.
