I have been getting a stuffy nose and allergies for a week every month ever since we got back from our summer vacation in June.

I blamed it on the change of location, pollen, aerosols in my dental clinic, MPox, and COVID, and was washing and sanitizing my hands till they were raw.

I would recover for three or four weeks, only to get another full-blown cold, which would progress to a cough and sometimes a fever.

My workouts were constantly reset to a pathetic 5-kilogram weight as soon as I progressed to 7.5 kg. I was frustrated, and worse, I was weak.

The solution hit me one evening when I was using my husband’s bathroom.

Once every few days, I would use his bathroom in the morning if Sivakami, our school-going daughter, and I, needed the bathroom simultaneously. She would use the one I ordinarily use, and I would use my husband’s.

I hadn’t noticed that his bathroom was smoky. I’d use his bathroom, race to the kitchen, and proceed with making breakfast and packing a school lunch for my daughter. The school run…
