If you haven’t looked at Part 1, read that first before you read this Part 2!

Indianapolis Colts

When a football fan buys a ticket, they are supporting the Colts. Because a fan bought tickets for one game, it will be on their mind to buy tickets for future games.

Indianapolis Colts mentioned their partners (which is advertised on their website):

Ashley HomeStore
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer (American Cancer Society)
Indiana University Health Simon Cancer Center
Indy Portables
Zeta Tau Alpha

On the website, the Colts mention Please be sure to visit their websites to learn more about their year-round efforts to fight this deadly disease. This embeds and ingrains American Cancer Society, IU Health, and everyone in the group in a fan’s brain. Of course they are not going to directly say “Hey, financially support these great businesses that are putting their best foot forward in fighting this deadly disease. C’mon now. It has to be the person’s decision to go to these websites and buy/donate on their own.

But that’s the beauty of marketing. You might be clicking on one of these websites to look for breast cancer information, but you might end up buying a product or scheduling a doctor’s appointment or making a donation.

Ticketmaster

Ticketmaster is getting a cut of ticket sales. In the future, Ticketmaster will send the purchaser a email about future games.

NFL Gear

NFL Gear is paying Ticketmaster for advertising. When a fan buys gear, NFL Gear is getting more change.

Are you starting to see the funnel?

There’s a lot of money and businesses involved through the sales funnel (in this case the Indianapolis Colts, Ticketmaster, NFL Gear) but to the football fans, all they see is a few purchases and it’s done. Sales funnels are invisible. But it’s powerful with human psychology behind it and earn brands millions of dollars. And the Colt’s business partners could be apart of the funnel.

The Indianapolis Colts found fans in a place where they were (when you are watching the news, you are more in likely at home right?) They created an event/did something great (breast cancer awareness) that made fans excited to buy tickets for a Sunday game. Throughout the process, they make fans think that the entire transaction was their idea from the get-go. Boom baby.

Here’s how you fall into the Sales funnel without even knowing it!

  1. You begin on the Indianapolis’s Colts website, and see that they are doing breast cancer awareness activities. You don’t notice this, but businesses on the website are listing their involvement with breast cancer and are placed where you’re most likely to pay attention (This is campaigning for your attention by hitting a soft spot)
  2. You find out that they are going to have a game soon and they are going to rock breast cancer gear (You become a lead)
  3. You notice that there’s a opportunity to buy tickets when you look at the Pamper Me Pink details. You see that there’s a “Fan Need Tickets Link.” You click the link to find out more information. (This is the opportunity for you to attend the game)
  4. After clicking the link, you are presented with ticket options that you’ve already said you were interested in a second ago (Here’s a potential sale for the Colts. If the football fan starts thinking “Hey, I need to schedule a doctor’s appointment sometime next week” then IU Health gets a potential sale. If a fan needs furniture, a fan could click on the Ashley Homestore link and they could get a potential sale.)
  5. As a football fan, you buy a ticket and become a buyer. Since you bought the tickets, there’s a chance that you will buy football tickets again (especially if they win the game).
  6. During the process of you buying tickets, you see the add to buy NFL gear. The process happens again, but this time in NFL’s Gear’s sales funnel.
  7. You buy NFL Gear from them because as a football fan, there’s no way you are going to game without your blue and white.
  8. You are in the Colt’s, Ticketmaster’s and the NFL’s Gear’s sales funnel.
  9. For the longest time, I didn’t know funnels existed. I’m learning about this type of stuff which is why I’m writing about it!
