Lance Surety Bonds’s infograph explains the breakdown of entrepreneurs in the US. There are a lot of great nuggets in the photo, but I want to highlight a few of the more interesting facts.
- For starters, approximently 550,000 new businesses open up each month
- Men start 59.4% of new businesses, while women create 40.6%
- African American women lead in rate of women starting new businesses followed by Asian American women. Non-minority women start the fewest in terms of rate
- 50.8% of people start a new business between the ages of 35 and 54
- Interestingly enough High School graduates are more like to start a business (27%) then college dropouts (26%). College graduates are the most likely to start a business (32.7%)
- Immigrants start 27.5% of businesses
- Latinos make up 20.8% of business owners. This number has doubled in just 20 years
- Almost 50% (45% to be exact) of businesses last 5 years
