Some Advice To Make All Your Dreams Come True.

Sometimes there is a lot more to words. “Aggressively pursue your goals.” This sentence is my mantra, so let me break it down for you! In reversed order, just because I can.

Lionel Messi is a great example of applying this in sports. His goal is to score, so from the moment he has got the ball he will start moving closer towards the goal regardless which obstacles are on his way.

Goals

  • Don’t pursue your dreams but your goals.
Goals are something you are acting on. Dreams are something you are just thinking about.
  • Stop saying that one day you might do/be awesomeness.
Put a date on it, 2–5–10 years from now till you reach this quantified goal. (i.e. In 2 years I’ll have sold 100.000 cd’s) Which are the intermediate steps you’ll have to take?
  • Awesomeness takes time, start today. Small steps first.
First step is telling all your friends about your goals. Write down a plan how you are going to do it. E-mail people who achieved something similar before and offer them a free dinner to listen and give feedback on your plan.
  • You only have one lifetime, so focus.
Decide on what you won’t do/be. Look for that one thing that makes your heart race the most. That one thing where you can be the greatest at and make a real difference.
  • Never settle for less than greatness.
Never be satisfied if people around you like what you are doing. Don’t stop until you are living up to you maximum potential.
  • Commit for hundred percent and stick to your path.
Once you have set your goals use them to guide you with every decision, big or small. Always pick the option that takes you closer to your goal. This doesn’t only counts for job opportunities but also for questions like “do I want to go out and get wasted tonight?”.

Your

  • Your life. Your goals.
You are the only one who can set them. Not your mother, not your girlfriend, not friends, not Jesus, …
  • Everyone has goals.
This doesn’t only apply to people who want to be the next Marc Zuckerberg. Your goals could be on a personal level ( i.e in one year I want to be happy with who I am and who I am with ), about the job you already have ( i.e. I want to be a key player in the company and get a raise in the next 12 months ), about a hobby ( i.e. I am going to run a triathlon in 2 years ), …
  • Don’t compromise. Don’t settle.
Sometimes you’ll have to take harsh decisions to reach your goals. Quit your job, end your relationship, take a big leap of faith,..do whatever it takes. Just don’t settle for the status quo because you are afraid of taking the necessary steps.
  • Don’t get stuck helping somebody else reach her/his goals.
This is one is equally important as tricky. You’ll almost never be able to reach your goals by yourself. Teaming up, collaborating and helping is really satisfying, if your paths happen coincide please do.
You have to realise however that no-one has the same ultimate goal. In all cases you are helping him/her goal or he/she is helping you reaching your goal. There is no in between.
For example, you can take a job/internship because of the experience/money/contacts you need to reach your goal, but don’t forget to leave once you have got what you came for, otherwise you are drifting from your path helping somebody else reach his/her goal.
  • Never ever will there be someone to do the work for you. Never ever. So don’t wait for it.

Pursue

  • It’s a verb. Get up. Get out. Do stuff. Ship it.
When it feels really uncomfortable you know that you are on the right track. If it comes easy and effortless you aren’t pushing yourself hard enough.
  • You’ll fail, crash face first and get hurt.
Just get up and start running again. You need to be like a bulldog, sink your teeth in and don’t let go. Failing is really hyped these days, but that doesn’t make it hurt less.
  • This is like a car chase, you always need to be making moves.
If you are going to sit back for a few years the goals/opportunities will be out of reach. The world keeps on spinning, always. For every day you sit back and relax there will be someone else working twice as hard and beat you to it.

Aggressively

There are people and companies out there who have the keys to a shortcut, which might put you on the fast track to your goal. Problem is they don’t know who you are and even if they do they won’t realise they are holding those keys. So don’t expect them to hand them to you cause you have a nice smile.

Don’t be afraid to reach out and tell them what your goals are and explain how they can help you out.

This doesn’t mean going around asking for freebies. Figure out how you can create value for them, always make it a win win.

The magic recipe is asking for something that is not a lot of effort for them but creates a huge win for yourself.

Some examples.

  • It’s not enough to get that internship in this cool company. Make sure you are also working on projects where you actually learn something. If not you need to speak up and tell them what would want to do. How this would make you ( and them ) better.
  • It’s not enough to collaborate with this amazing big brand. Tell them what they can do how they can put you more in the picture.
  • It’s not enough to just be friends with your dream girl. Ask her out.

Let me know which goal you are aggressively pursuing and how I can help!

Thanks so much for reading! If you enjoyed it, would mean the world to me if you shared it with someone. :)
