Noticeably the fittest player on the pitch, Cristiano Ronaldo, will be 41 years old by the 2026 world cup. It is clarifying that this will be his last event. He will play a few more seasons in the Premier League with Manchester United. Ronaldo has played for four different clubs, and he is the only footballer to score 115 international goals in just 185 appearances.
In 2006, Ronaldo became the youngest ever World Cup finals goalscorer for Portugal when he netted a penalty kick in Portugal’s second group encounter against Iran.
3. Karim Benzema
Real Madrid’s hero Karim Benzema who previously booked his seat in France’s national squad for Euro 2020, is probably the favourite player of France right now. The Frenchman was left out of France’s preliminary 30-man World Cup squad due to some alleged involvement cases.
Karim is ready to play in his second World Cup for France, and it seems likely that this will be his last World Cup. Benzema is almost 34 years old, but he is still as active as a youngster. He recently scored a hat-trick against PSG and a late goal to secure Real Madrid’s position in the UCL semifinals.
4. Luka Modric
The 36-year-old Croatian midfield is also known as Real Madrid’s heart of midfield; Modric is known as one of the best midfielders in the history of the game. He led Croatia to the finals of the previous world cup and earned silver wear finishing second after France defeated them 4–2 at Luzhniki Stadium.
The 2018 Ballon d’Or winner received the award for his outstanding performance in the 2018 World Cup. Luka Modric is playing his last world cup for Croatia in Qatar; his team will be competing in Group F against Belgium, Canada and Morocco. Modric will most likely retire from football after the 2022 World Cup.
5. Robert Lewandowski
Poland’s Icon Robert Lewandowski is likely to retire after this FIFA world cup in Qatar. He is in great foam at his club with 45 goals in just 40 games, but he has yet to score a World Cup goal, and he will be looking to rectify that in Qatar.

6. Manuel Neuer
German goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is one of the most illustrious and famous goalkeepers in history. He won the 2014 FIFA World Cup against Argentina, since then he has been a trophy lifter for Bayern Munich, winning nine consecutive Bundesliga titles.
After being stopped in the group stages in the last world cup, Neuer is set for his last appearance with the German national team at the Qatar World Cup. Germany will be competing against Japan and Spain with their new manager, Hansi Flick who joined them from Bayern Munich on 25 May 2021.

Thiago Silva did not appear in any of the 2010 World Cup matches for Brazil, but he was on the bench, and in the 2014 home World Cup he captained the Brazil National team and played in the semifinals Thiago is currently enjoying his legendary spell at Chelsea.
Brazil already have some brick-wall center-backs in the team, but Thiago Silva is always favored by Seleção. Thiago will be leading his side for one last time at the Qatar World Cup, and they are very much favorites to win the World Cup this year.
8. Hugo Lloris
Lloris has been a great goalkeeper for his club and national team, but not only his goalkeeping skills, the 35-year-old has a long list of titles under his belt, both domestically and internationally. Hugo Lloris lifted the FIFA World Cup 2018 with France crediting the second World Cup to the nation.
Recently, Lloris and his team beaten Spain in the nations league finals and became European national champions. He’s also the most capped player in France’s history (108). This will be Hugo’s last World Cup at Qatar, and they are the second favorite team to with the competition.
9. Luis Suarez
Suarez will be playing his third consecutive World Cup for Uruguay and, most probably this one is his last cup. Suarez has not featured in every game for Atlético Madrid, since he left Barcelona, he has only scored 32 goals since 2020.
Suarez is one of the best striker of football in his number 9 jersey, he’s numbers at Liverpool and FCB are enough to describe the Uruguayan. With 55 goals, he is Uruguay’s all-time leading scorer. Suarez is 35 years old and will almost certainly retire from all format football in a few years due to injuries.
10. Sergio Busquets
Sergio Busquets is an FC Barcelona legend, He is a world champion and a Euro winner with Spain. If Sergio will be a part Luis Enrique’s plans for Qatar then this will be his last world cup. Spain national team is set to compete against Germany this year in Group E.
Once an interviewer asked Busquets about his future plans he stated, “I’d like to try coaching after retirement.” Sergio Busquets has won major trophies at Barcelona as well, and he’s the most loyal player of Barcelona for fourteen years with 444 appearances.
So these are the top stars who will be going to play in their last world cup in 2022. There are other players like Neymar, Eden Hazard and Thomas Müller, but we are not sure that this will be their last World Cup or whether they are going to be a part of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
