Professional sports in the United States are finally back with MLB’s return in the past two days after months of inactivity. The Yankees/ Nationals opener on Thursday set TV ratings records as one of the most-watched regular season games in years. The stands were mostly empty, artificial noise was piped in through the speakers, but baseball is finally back.

Top Performers

Matt Olson: Top headlining star is Matt Olson, courtesy of his walk-off grand slam to give the A’s the opening day win over Mike Trout, Shohei Ohtani, and the Angels. It was definitely eerie to see Olson’s moon-blast, walk-off shot and not hear a crowd go absolutely insane, but it was still a thrilling ending to the last game on Friday night.

Adding to the late-game intrigue was the first-ever implementation of MLB’s extra inning “ghost runner” rule with a player starting at second base at the start of the extra inning. I’m not a big fan in theory but have to admit it was fun to watch last night.
