Vintage baseball cards have a deep history. And while basketball cards have consistently been among the most popular cards since the late 80s, vintage basketball cards don’t have the same allure or the same history as baseball. Nonetheless, there are still certain cards that last through the ages and continue to be important in the sports card world. Let’s look through some of these iconic cards, specifically focusing on players who have already retired (thus, don’t expect to see any Lebron James or Stephen Curry in here).

The Most Iconic Player: Michael Jordan

1986 Fleer Michael Jordan (the most iconic basketball card of all-time)

I mean, of course. Do we even need to say much here? He’s MJ. He’s the GOAT (please, no MJ vs Lebron debate here! There are both phenomenal. Let’s move on). Not only that, but his early years were before basketball cards really began to take off. His 1986 Fleer “rookie” card the most iconic card in the history of basketball cards, and one of only a few that could be considered for that title in all of sports cards.
