Through three games, Matthew Stafford has been as good as the Rams had hoped

Yes, I know. It has only been three games. But for Matthew Stafford and the LA Rams, he truly looks like the missing piece after throwing 343 yards and four touchdowns against the defending Super Bowl Champions. Not only that, he is looking like he is having fun playing football in the NFL. Maybe for the first time.

The Detroit Lions were/are a cursed team. There’s no question about that. Just look at this past Sunday’s game against the Ravens. The refs missed a delay of game on the Ravens at the end of the game. Then, in the following play, Justin Tucker hits a record-long 66-yard field goal to win the game. If you’re from Detroit, you weren’t surprised at any of that. It’s almost expected at this point.

The players eventually feel the same way. Calvin Johnson has talked recently to Pat McAfee about the Lions always getting the short end of the stick on a lot of calls in his career.

Not only that, there were so many years of losing in Detroit. It’s been a losing culture there for a long time. There were new coaches all the time that Stafford had to learn and get used to.

Now, Stafford’s with a team with a good culture under Sean McVay and they’ve been consistently winning for years now.

There were a lot of questions about Matthew Stafford coming into this season. It was a huge gamble for McVay to give up Jared Goff along with some really good draft picks for a guy who has never won a playoff game. So far, Stafford has lived up to the expectations.

They don’t call it “Overreaction Monday” for nothing. It’s only three games. It’s also not the first time that Stafford has beat Tom Brady. But yesterday’s game felt different. He came up in the bigger moments once he started to settle down at the end of the first quarter.

Sean McVay looks like he’s having a blast, as well. His job looks easier with a gunslinger like Matthew Stafford out there.

The big question will be whether or not he can finally win a playoff game. In three playoff appearances, Stafford has four touchdowns and three interceptions. His completion percentage was 63.2%.

Something that the fans of the Rams should be worried about is what Tom Brady does to teams after he loses to them in the regular season. It seems like it happens all the time; Tom Brady loses to a team in the regular season and he uses that as fuel to learn all of their weaknesses and exploit them. The Rams and Buccaneers could very well meet again in the playoffs.

The Rams face the Cardinals next week — a divisional opponent. Both teams are 3–0 so this will be a huge test for Matthew Stafford and the Rams.
