#08 The People’s House Obama in VR — Emmy award for political reasons?
This is a review of a 360 degrees video called ‘The people’s house — inside the White House with Barrack and Michelle Obama’. Felix & Paul Studios made it, and they are from Canada. The video recently won an Emmy award for “Outstanding Original Interactive program 2017.” That’s a bit bizarre as the experience is not so special.

The white house and listening to Obama speech face to face? You may ask what is like the experience? It almost feels like you are there and it just feels as if the president recorded this video as a farewell message to everyone.
In a nutshell, it’s a plain 360 degrees recording with no special effects or tricks. It’s just that, and it won one of the Emmy awards just recently, just how?
Perhaps this is because VR is receiving so much hype around the globe that even politicians want to be associated with it? Let’s just be grateful as it’s a beautiful story about a very hard working president as compared to the current one whose name I’m not going to mention.
The video itself is long, it’s over 22 minutes, the graphics are at high level, and as you proceed, you will visit many rooms that the white house has to offer and the time just flies.
I suspect the award was given based on the hardly accessible content such as filming the White House with such intimacy and not for VR itself.
If you are a fan of the white house and Obama then watch it otherwise you can skip it as other than the content it does not show any VR unique capabilities. Overall it hardly can be rated as it’s a just a 360 degrees video with a president of United States but whats funny that the studio behind is from Canada and not the United States.
I would give just 5 out 10 stars but not an Emmy Award as there are many more hard working studios that created better experiences and even Felix & Paul has made better VR experiences.
You can watch it on Oculus store with your Samsung Gear VR or just on Youtube.
