What is AI?
AI or Artificial intelligence is the simulation of human intelligence processes by machines, especially computer systems. The term was first introduced by John McCarthy, who is also known as the ‘Father of AI’.
Let’s talk about the 3 types of AI
- Artificial narrow intelligence (ANI): AI with a narrow range of abilities
- Artificial general intelligence (AGI): AI on par with human capabilities
- Artificial superintelligence (ASI): AI that surpasses human intelligence
Artificial Narrow Intelligence :
Narrow Artificial Intelligence contains a learning algorithm that works for a specific task and the knowledge required in this task is not applied to other tasks.
Some real-world examples will include :
- Siri by Apple
- Alexa by Amazon
- Cortana by Microsoft
Artificial General Intelligence :
Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) is the representation of generalized human cognitive abilities in software so that, faced with an unfamiliar task, the AGI system could find a solution.
AI is designed to operate within specific parameters and is often programmed to learn from data and adapt to changing circumstances. Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), on the other hand, is a machine that can perform any intellectual task that a human can.
Examples include :
- IBM’s Watson Super Computer
- Expert Systems
- Self-Driving Cars
Artificial Super Intelligence :
The term “Artificial Super Intelligence” describes the stage at which computer intelligence exceeds that of humans.
In order to prompt actions, ASI systems can instantly comprehend, evaluate, and process the environment. As a result, it is anticipated that super-intelligent machines will be able to make and solve decisions with greater accuracy than people.
As for now, ASI is still theoretical, so there are no real-life examples of Super Intelligent machines.
