INBOX: Alternate Seduction — Getaway EP

Here at Tortoise and the Snare, we make a point to listen to every track that’s submitted to us and respond in kind. This week we were fortunate enough to have a remix EP sent to us by an up-and-coming local label, Funktrap Records.

The original mix comes from Alternate Seduction, a Baltimore based electronic duo whose latest release, “Getaway”, is a 80’s-inspired post-disco groove. Its percussive, plucky ambiance sits over-top a funky bassline and soft, jazzy pad synths that give it that summertime chill, Miami Vice vibe that would make both Crockett and Tubbs proud. Among the remixes, the real standout for us is the Solderist remix, which takes the funky vibe and soulful vocals and flips it into a dramatic, key-filled, jazzy lounge epic. All told, five artists were able to put their worthy spin on the track.

This EP has already seen some startling success, peaking at #12 on the nudisco chart (not to mention #44 on the house and #57 on the deep house charts), which is no small feat for a fledgling label. This speaks to the quality of the EP and engenders some real excitement for the future of this label. With plenty more releases on tap, keep these hometown guys on your radar!
