We are Tortoise and the Snare

Tortoise and the Snare was born out of five friends’ love for all forms of electronic music. Hailing from Washington, D.C., which over the past few years has emerged as a burgeoning hotspot for dance music, we have had the privilege of both seeing first-hand and participating in the growth and explosion of a scene that is now considered one of the go-to stops for DJs in the Eastern US.
WHO ARE WE?
Currently, our founding core is Grody, Crunt, and Pølø Club, all based in D.C.
WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?
There could be many answers to this, but it can really be boiled down to a particular idea: we have noticed many music blogs will tend to focus on one style of music. Tortoise and the Snare will be proud to showcase and explore the entire spectrum of Electronic Dance Music, as long as it falls into one category: Good. Fucking. Music.
Good. Fucking. Music. We know from experience that musical tastes are fluid, so why paint yourself into a corner? With that in mind, TATS will do our best to represent and expose our readers to a number of different styles.
We ultimately wanted to create a space for Electronic music fans of all kind to come to be exposed to (and even share themselves) up-and-coming production and DJ talent from around the world. We know there is an incredible amount of unknown, unnoticed, and under-appreciated talent all over the world. It is our goal to provide a medium for fans of dance music to discover new artists that may quickly become their new favorites.
WHAT CAN READERS EXPECT?
To begin, we will feature content in the following manner, from both ourselves and guest writers:
- Track and Song Highlights — We will be selecting tracks that we, as a staff, love and highlighting them throughout the week with a synopsis of why the track resonated with us. Maybe it tries something new and interesting from a production standpoint; or maybe it just caught us in the right mood and poked us in the feels. No matter what, you’ll know exactly why each highlighted song is selected.
- Interviews — We will be conducting interviews with up-and-coming talent that we have been impressed with, or that we believe is on the verge of breaking out. This will include open discussions about Production strategies, DJing tips and tricks and the music industry in general.
- Monthly Guest Mixes– We will feature monthly guest mixes by DJs we are fans of, who will hand pick a mix for your listening pleasure.
- Weekly Playlists — Can’t wait a whole month? Every week we will release a playlist on our Soundcloud, curated by DJ talent (both local and abroad) and the TATS staff.
- Thought Pieces — This industry is forever changing, we will discuss our views on things we’ve seen and heard.
Over time, we will progress into Tutorials, Videos and more.
Apart from the blog, we will also be hosting live streams regularly on our Chew.tv channel. These will be a mixed bag of us and our local DJ friends and will be a great way to interact with us via the live stream chat.
