Alien Memories
How will the Universe remember you when Earth is finally gone?
“Yes, humans are the smartest animals on Earth. Only a human being can think himself to death.”- Author Ripley J. Cloud
Naomi10-G3 gazes through her Spaceshifter window, as a fragmented menagerie of memories flow, from her memory chip. Like a porcelain doll with blue marbled eyes, she turns a smooth, ivory face to search the Cosmos. She flies the craft by patting her fingertips nimbly, over the blue neon touchscreen dash, in front of her. The Spaceshifter glides smoothly around the planet, as she prepares to land on Mars 2.
Today is July fourth, of the year twenty seventy-two, according to the old Earth calendar calculations.
The wispy smears of white and crimson red clouds gather, under a bright sapphire moon. This colorful sight somehow means more, in Naomi10-G3’s brain today, than it did yesterday. She can’t grasp the full meaning of the colors. Her memory chip has a glitch, which prevents her brain from seeing why this is so important.
Like a child looking through a kaleidoscope, she sees jumbled rainbow prism bits and pieces, of a past memory. Is that what they called it? she searches her memory bank. A kaleidoscope. I love that word, it is beautiful, she thinks, smiling.
