Stan watched the four riders approach as he carefully pushed the last of his parachute into his backpack. He stood shirtless, leaving the Cuirass armor and large shield on the ground. It wouldn’t do to be recognizable just yet, in case this went sideways, so he slid the helmet over his head, feeling his short, groomed beard brush the kevlar sides. It was a tight fit, on purpose. Stan smiled slightly, remembering the arguments with the historians and engineers. He had asked for wider eyes slits and a closer molding to his face because he needed to see with his peripheral vision to fight. The end product had upset the history buffs. Though closely resembling the actual helmet Spartans used, it was stronger than any sword of this age could pierce, comfortable, and functional.

Violence wouldn’t be his first choice of action, though he reserved that right if the situation called for it. He stuck his Xiphos sword and javelin into the hard sand in front of him. This was a recon mission. His goal was mission support.
