Design Ops: organising design in a company
Design Ops: the concept appeared for the first time in the US around 2015. Becoming more and more popular from 2018 with the “Design Ops Handbook”, it soon stole the show of Design topics. The Nielsen Norman Group defines it as “the orchestration and optimisation of people, processes, and craft in order to amplify design’s value and impact at scale.”
In June 2023, TotalEnergies Digital Factory held a roundtable with Shuo-Hsiu Hsu (Airbus) and Nicolas Chatelain (Orange) to better understand how french companies organise their design.
This 2-hour roundtable raised many different topics around four main themes:

About the TotalEnergies Digital Factory’s Design Studio:
The Design Studio is part of the Product and Value Office within TotalEnergies Digital Factory. It’s a cross-functional team dedicated to improve the user experience of the digital products built for the Company. Its 18 members are Designers, specialised in User Experience (UX), User Interface (UI) and/or Product & Service design.
The Design Meetup is a bi-annual event organized by the Design Studio. It gathers speakers from different companies to exchange about Design topics and network. The format can vary from one edition to another, from workshops to conferences.
