Flatiron Building Toronto by David Crighton

David was born in Edmonton, Alberta, in the year 1953. His father was an Anglican minister, and he and his wife had four children together. David was always drawing and colouring, particularly cartoons, as a child. His siblings, too, possessed a remarkable talent for the arts.

David wasn’t the best student in the class. In Grade 10, his guidance counsellor suggested that he attend a trade school. David already knew about Central Technical Trade School and the fact that it had a very respected Fine Arts Department. So that is where he decided to go for grades 11 and 12. As a result, his education and immersion in the world of art marked the beginning of something monumental!

Fifty years of Toronto Art

The teacher offered the pupils various assignments during his tenure at Central Tech. But one task, in particular, stuck out for David. The teacher instructed his students to locate and draw a structure. David’s drawing below served as the primary basis for his 50-year career as an accomplished artist.
Ink & Pencil David Crighton, a Canadian artist, created a drawing of a Victorian residence in 1973.
David drew a Victorian mansion in Yorkville that he had uncovered. His aunt fell in love with this charming illustration, and when she offered to buy it from him, David’s eyes lit up.
After graduation, David worked for a short time at an advertising agency after graduating from high school. However, the structure required to stay in that industry was too much for his free spirit to bear. So he took a chance and put his entire heart and soul into establishing a life for himself.
