Kappa Kappa Psi has been headquartered in Stillwater, OK since it’s inception at Oklahoma A&M University in 1919. Tau Beta Sigma added Stillwater as the base for its headquarters once the two groups were recognized nationally as adjunct organizations in 1946.

Originally based out of the Seretean Center, the current headquarters is in Stillwater Station located a little off campus from Oklahoma State University and houses a staff that works for both Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma. The services of the National Headquarters fall into four categories, all of which overlap: Administrative Services, Fiscal Management, Record Keeping, and Publicity and Promotion.

When I was approached by the National Executive Director of Kappa Kappa Psi & Tau Beta Sigma to redesign the National Headquarters logo, I was excited to be given the opportunity. This logo would represent the office and be seen throughout social media as well as official documents.

Different concepts and ideas were played with during the exploration process.

The one that seemed to work the best was to illustrate a harp in the center with a laurel surrounding it. The harp would sit upon a pedestal and the entire concept would be housed inside a circle. Inside the harp, there are four diamonds (similar to those found within the crest of Tau Beta Sigma) and a star (similar to the one seen throughout the branding of Kappa Kappa Psi).

The circle works for symmetry and construction. I used the greek letters instead of spelling out the organization’s names so that, when the staff wears it, its relation to the Fraternity and Sorority is more immediately identifiable. The outside circle is optional (as seen on the staff polos).

The overall result is a professional seal that properly represents both organizations as well as the full-time staff that runs day-to-day operations of the Fraternity and Sorority.
