Next year the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics is finally updating its numbers on the so-called “gig economy” amid estimates that in the next three to five years more than half of U.S. workers will be freelance or contract. In many cases, this means they also work remotely at least part of the time. And while a lot of people out there get a little gleam in their eye at the mention of “remote work,” filled with dreams of working in pajama pants and walking the dog in the middle of the day, remote work is actually pretty difficult to pull off well.
