We’re building a Care Card with help from Innovate UK

We’re excited to announce that we’ve been selected by Innovate UK to receive support as part of their COVID-19 response fund.

The grant we are receiving allows us to cover the setup costs for a new Care Card product, something we’ve wanted to build for a while.

Many of the carers who talk to us in our user research sessions talk about wanting a better way to make payments on behalf of their loved ones.

Soon, they’ll be able to use the Care Card.

We’re designing the card to function differently than Starling’s Connected Card. It’ll be more flexible, configured by the person setting up the card, with spending restrictions that match their needs. Unlike the Connected Card, our card will be issued in the name of the carer, with an app available for both parties.

Building the Care Card was something we had planned at Touco for 2021, but with the COVID-19 outbreak and lockdown, we realised we needed to build it quicker. Thankfully, Innovate UK’s support has meant we can start work now and get our card into people’s hands sooner.

We’ll be building the Care Card over the next six months, so stay tuned for updates.

In the meantime, if you want to help us test cards as one of our first users, you can sign up to our waiting list.

We’re also looking to partner with relevant charities and companies on the Care Card project. Get in touch through hello@usetouco.com if you want to find out more.
