Maldives — 7 Things To Do
The Maldives are considered an island dream par excellence and are a true natural wonder with their azure lagoons, sugar white beaches and fabulous underwater world. Many things make a trip to the atolls unique. We show you everything you can experience in the Maldives!
Wellness in Gili Lankanfushi
Just by approaching the islands of the Maldives, our mind switches into relaxation mode — true to the motto “No shoes, no news”, there is absolutely nothing here that can upset us. The perfect place to do something good for yourself and your body!
Gili Lankanfushi welcomes tourists to the private island of Lankanfushi in Male Atoll. The eco-luxury resort in the heart of the Indian Ocean is considered the best holiday resort in the Maldives. The impressive resort with 46 villas is located only 20 minutes from the airport and promises a complete wellness programme for body and soul. Each guest is provided with a personal butler who guarantees authentic and personalised service. Every day you can take part in free yoga sessions, indulge in traditional wellness treatments and fill your belly with healthy, fresh food. The focus here is on sustainability, including environmental tours with the resort’s own marine biologist.
Sleep in a Beach Bubble
We show you where you can spend the most romantic night of your life in the Maldives. In the middle of the paradisiacal Baa Atoll on the small island of Kanifushi, you can book an exclusive beach bubble and spend the night there. At the elegant Finolhu Resort, you’ll find everything you need for your night under the stars on the 1.5km long sandbank — a bed, a bathroom, cushioned beach loungers and your own private beach. It doesn’t get more romantic than this, which is why Finolhu Resort is a particularly popular destination for honeymooners.
Explore the most beautiful house reef
The hotel islands in the Maldives all have in common that they have fantastic beaches, lagoons and their own diving school. There are also great diving spots all around the islands, which are regularly visited by the diving schools and boat tours. Of course, it is especially practical to have a nice house reef right in front of your own accommodation to explore the colourful underwater world on your own. We recommend the small island of Kandolhu with its 30 bungalows and certainly one of the most beautiful house reefs in the Maldives. This little jewel in the middle of the Ari Atoll has a gorgeous white sandy beach, tropical vegetation and a small spa. For your diving or snorkelling sessions, you can borrow the appropriate equipment at the resort and — quite exclusively — there is a GoPro in every room for your use! A perfect place to enjoy your dream holiday in peace and quiet and explore the cute sea creatures and their habitat.

Visit the most extraordinary restaurant in the Maldives
Here in the Maldives, you’ll also find the world’s only traditional Maldivian restaurant built on boats in a lagoon, welcoming guests — barefoot, of course — to this unique setting. Ba’theli on Milaidhoo Island is shaped like three boats nestled in a beautiful blue lagoon and serves gourmet dishes inspired by the flavours of the Maldivian spice route. The first boat houses the kitchen, another the bar and the third is the restaurant. Here you can either dine under a starry sky on the “deck” or in the air-conditioned boat itself. The absolute highlight is the glass floor in the restaurant, through which you can watch the sea creatures in the Indian Ocean during your visit.
Experience the Maldives originally
While in the past there were only relatively simple and quiet islands in the Maldives, today the offer varies more between luxury resorts and club holidays. If you want to experience the Maldives in their original form, the best way is to take a speedboat from Malé to Biyadhoo, which takes about 40 minutes. This small, green island with many palm trees has a beautiful sandy beach and probably the best underwater world in the entire Maldives. While snorkelling, you can even spot moray eels, octopuses, baby sharks, rays and turtles. There are no luxury hotels on Biyadhoo, but there are budget accommodation options with a lot of original charm.

The Maldive Victory
The Maldive Victory sank in 1981 after hitting a reef. Today, the dive site attracts diving enthusiasts thanks to its particularly challenging currents and the rich underwater world that has made the wreck a point of interest.
The Maldive Victory rests beneath the waves at Hulhule House Reef, which stretches between Malé and Hulhule. According to experts, this place is beautiful all year round. Be sure to take an experienced guide with you here, as the currents can be dangerous. Prices for diving trips vary depending on the level of training required, the amount of equipment hired and transport to and from the dive site.
Watch the sea shine
If you are in the Maldives between the months of July and February, you can observe the magical spectacle of the “Sea of Stars” with your own eyes. As if stars had fallen from the sky, the sea glows and enchants everyone who sees this natural spectacle. The actual reason for this beautiful event is fluorescent plankton, which starts to glow due to chemical reactions.
It is best to spend the night on the beaches of Mudhdoo, Vaadhoo and Rangali islands. Night swimming is usually prohibited at these bays, but you can glide across the sea in a kayak or surfboard.
