WHILE WALKING

A Picture of Me In Front of a Hibiscus Tree

In shoes that match the flowers

Last week was tough. I opened up a new publication on Medium, just before the start of a busy week at my dental clinic. I wanted to do something silly and fun, which had nothing to do with writing or dental work, but then, whenever I do something, there’s more to write about, especially if there are pictures involved.

I got a pair of new shoes in a nice and bright orange-pink. I wanted a picture of myself in front of a tree with flowers in the same color and was looking out for one on my walks.

One of my neighbors has a tree with flowers the same color as my new shoes in their garden. However, these neighbors are on vacation, and their gate is locked.

A locked iron gate, painted black, with small golden flowers in the middle of the wrought iron. The padlock is a large brass lock. A bungalow is partly visible behind the gate. A tree with pink flowers on it is visible inside the garden in front of the bungalow.
My neighbor’s gate. Their garden has a tree with the flowers I wanted a picture with — but behind a padlock. Photo by the author.
A bungalow with a garden. Pots line the border of a small lawn. A tree, rather overgrown and with bright pink flowers is visible in the middle of the garden.

I took a picture by sticking my phone through their gate, but the picture wasn’t worth photoshopping myself into.

I walked past their house on my way to my workout and back all week; waiting for them to come back from vacation, praying that the flowers wouldn’t all wilt and die before they got back, when lo and behold!
