Some of what you’d expect and more of what you wouldn’t

Our family of five stayed at the YMCA of the Rockies more than a decade ago. My husband attended a conference during the day while I occupied our three boys.

We drove from Wisconsin to Colorado, through the quaint town of Estes Park to the YMCA of the Rockies where the conference was held. It was July and the weather was exceptional.

The only one of us that had been to Colorado before was my husband and it had been as a child.

The YMCA of the Rockies is located just outside of Estes park. It is meant for the enjoyment of nature and restoration of spirit. You can stay in cabins, in rooms that are hotel like — which is where we stayed, or camp.

It has numerous activities such as horseback riding, achery, swimming, basketball, and nature trails on which to hike. Some are guide-led and some you can do on your own.

We did all of the above activities, plus we spent a lot of time in the craft barn. There, we made tye dyed shirts and painted greenware pottery. There was jewelry making, weaving, and more. The…
