When was the last time you saw an ad for cocaine? In fact, if you saw one you would be horrified and demand that it be removed. You would probably want to charge the advertiser.

In society today the only drug that is socially acceptable is alcohol, despite the risk factors. We know about drunk driving, impaired liver function, increased blood pressure, weight gain, and a whole host of issues that are directly caused by alcohol consumption.

Alcohol and Advertising

I can remember when I was a kid and all the magazines had tobacco ads. It was common and no one thought anything of it. Now, tobacco ads are extremely limited in scope and hard to find.

We can’t say the same thing about alcohol. Now, we even have celebrity alcohol endorsements. Plenty of famous people have their alcohol brand like it’s a pair of shoes. Ads on television make alcohol seem glamorous and inviting.

We are told to “drink responsibly” but the truth is that very few ever drink responsibly. We laugh and joke with each other after a night of drinking and think hangovers are no big deal. we all have our favorite alcohol brands and instantly recognize the slogans and ads we see.

It boggles the mind
