It took me a while to write the above.

These days it’s a trend to insert a superlative between ‘for a’ and ‘designer’. Without really thinking I started to follow suit. ‘Talented’, great’, ‘awesome’, ‘amazing’.

And then I thought, ‘why?’.

It reminded me of a brief exchange years ago, when I was a much (much) younger man. My website used to have a headline ‘Professional work’ under which I displayed work I’d done for the small number of companies I’d worked for. My art director at the time quipped, ‘Is that in contrast to your unprofessional work?’.

This strikes me as a similar situation.

We’re looking for a designer to come and work with Pablo, myself and (hopefully) one or two others. You’ll be talented, amazing and all those other superlatives you can think of — none of which I specified — because it’s obvious that we want you to be all those things.

We trust if you apply, you will be.
