T-Mobile: Data Breach Hits Wireless Carrier
With a wave of data breaches happening all across the world, T-Mobile is the latest company to become subject to cyber hackers obtaining sensitive data from millions of users. Data breaches are the worst of cyber attacks due to the fact that cyber criminals can sell personal information to unauthorized groups or simply use it as a way to steal someone’s identity. Victims of data breaches are almost always caught off guard when it happens, and they end up going through a rigorous process to identify vulnerabilities. However, If you’re a large company like T-Mobile, a lot more needs to be done than just routine patches. These types of companies are not only liable for themselves, but also to the consumers they serve.
In a press release on August 17, 2021, T-Mobile mentioned that 54 million customers were affected by the data breach. Cyber hackers were able to compromise their database systems and steal personal identifiable information that included names, addresses, social security, driver licenses and birth dates. Account PINS and IMEIs, which distinguish devices and accounts, was also stolen. Every type of customer, former and active was affected.
