There are two ways to contribute to The Aspiring PM:

  1. Share questions and topics you would like covered in future APM articles by filling out this form.
  2. Publishing your own article (addressed further below). If you are already familiar with APM, our goals, what we look for in an article, and the process of publishing on Medium, feel free to submit your article. Once you are approved as an author, you will have publishing privileges to publish without approval in the future and can publish through this process.

Publishing on The APM

The Aspiring PM is a publication focused on making product management more accessible and collaborative. If you’d like to learn more about the origins, you can read about it here: Why I Started The Aspiring PM.

The publication is hosted by Medium, and requires a Medium account to publish your article. If you’d like, you can choose to put your content behind a paywall and earn money for the time subscribers spend reading your content with the Medium Partner Program. You will remain the only owner of your work, in accordance with the Medium Terms of Service that you agree to when establishing a Medium account.

The APM organizes content into three categories:

  • The Basics. What is product management? Why would I want to pursue it? What books and videos can I dive into in order to get going?
  • Landing the Role. What can I expect to face in the interview? How do I negotiate an offer? How do product roles differ across companies?
  • Shipping Amazing Products. What do you do on a regular basis to stimulate creativity? How do you get buy-in from stakeholders and earn trust? How do you build a winning product team?

At a basic level, we aim to publish articles that are cleanly written and add value in one of these categories.

What We Look For

Additionally, we are excited about publishing articles that include the following:

  1. A clear title that cuts to the chase, and can easily be found by those searching the internet for the information you provide.
  2. It adds value to the reader — why should whoever is reading this care?
  3. An original story or experience. Whatever you write should be original and your own work. Stories can be amazing for illustrating a principle or lesson, but remember to keep them succinct and focused.
  4. Relevant images. If you don’t have any of your own that you want to include, you can use images from Unsplash. Don’t use photos off of the internet that you don’t own, because you can be cited for copyright violation.
  5. Edited for length. Brevity is required because your audience has a limited amount of time and attention. Prioritize your most important points and iterate to get to the core of what you’d like the reader to take away.

Once you feel that your article meets the above guidelines and you are excited about sharing it, please submit it to be published.
