Today is Lucy’s 11th birthday. It may seem odd to some that we celebrate or even to know our dog’s birthday but to us, it isn’t. Lucy is family and we celebrate family member’s birthdays.
We chose to celebrate Lucy by doing a couple of her favorite things. We went for a walk as a family and on that walk we stopped by our neighborhood butcher to buy her a treat.
We live just a few minutes walk away from Bonngard’s Family Meats and ever since we moved to our neighborhood 8+ years ago, we have been shopping there.
Bonngard’s Family Meats is exactly what you want your small town butcher to be.
The service is incredible. The staff is knowledgeable, eager to help and very kind. If you ever see an employee wearing a tie-dye shirt, be sure to take a moment to read the back of the shirt… it will bring a smile to you face.
Bonngard’s is our one stop shop for all our BBQing needs!
They have all the normal cuts of meat you would expect but they also make a lot of great extras too like their snack sticks, jerky, potato or macaroni salads, potato skins and so much more.
But our truly favorite, and what we think that Bonngards is best at, is brats.
When we visit family in North Dakota they always ask if we have room to bring a cooler full of brats with us. They are that good!
The brats are so good that we routinely take orders from family and then transport them over state lines!
I would strongly recommend that if you stop in during lunch hours, come hungry and order a sandwich.
Today’s visit was solely for one reason, Lucy.
The kids picked out a pig ear and a femur for Lucy. When they walked outside to where Tim and Lucy were waiting, they were greeted by a tail wagging, smiling old mutt.

I have banked on your freezer section to have a prepared tater tot hotdish ready for me to pick up on a way home from a busy day and I love that you support other small businesses by stocking your shelves with quality, locally made products.
