As a member of the Townsville Stronger Communities Action Group, I’m passionate about helping Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders provide positive guidance for young people in their community.

Leadership skills are vital, which is why it was a pleasure to take part in the first meeting of the new Townsville and Regional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Men’s Group.

Led by Morris Cloudy, the 30 group members aim to use their skills and experience in a range of fields, and work with government and non-government services, to improve the wellbeing of local Indigenous people.

We look forward to working closely with the men’s group — this may include seeking advice on how to enhance existing youth or family services, or help in connecting with individual families.

By directing our efforts at the grassroots, we’ll be better equipped to meet our shared goal of stopping children from falling into the youth justice system and guiding them to lead responsible and fulfilling lives.
