In today’s post, we feature two positions at Embodied, a Pasadena, CA-based startup founded in 2016 that is developing companion robots that aim to revolutionize care and wellness by enhancing the quality of life for individuals and families.
Led by founder and CEO Paolo Pirjanian, the former CTO of iRobot, Embodied’s team of passionate, self-motivated individuals are dedicated to transforming human-robot interaction in a positive, high-performance work environment. They value open, honest, and ethical collaboration, and believe in the power of diversity, personal expression, and curiosity when pursuing complex challenges. If you’re looking for an opportunity to join a mission-driven team and make an impact on the future of humankind, Embodied is a great place to put your skills to the test.
Game Designer (Pasadena, California): Embodied is looking to add a game designer to its technical team to work on creative ways for robots to engage and interact with young users.
In this role, you would be responsible for creating content that captures the imagination of K-12 children in ways that improves their social development. You would work collaboratively with social development experts, roboticists, and engineers to integrate entertaining, therapeutically-enhanced content into the Embodied robot in ways that prioritize sensory input. You would also be responsible for identifying and solving creative challenges that arise from building interactive game dynamics for robotic, consumer products.
To qualify, you will need demonstrable game design experience on two or more published projects, as well as a familiarity with overseeing content from creation to execution. Cross-discipline collaboration will be critical for this role, as you’ll find yourself working with professionals from engineering, art, audio, therapy, marketing, and other backgrounds. You should have the desire and ability to create content and game mechanics for children, including new play patterns that use voice, image recognition, and gesture controls. In addition, Embodied prefers candidates that have a background in complex systems design and non-linear scripting.
Robot Technician (Pasadena, California): Embodied is also looking to add a talented Robot Technician to its creative team. This position would be responsible for maintenance and troubleshooting of the existing Embodied robot fleet, executing new testing procedures and providing feedback to the engineering and software teams on ways to improve the build and operations processes.
As Embodied’s Robot Technician, you will be responsible for maintenance of the entire Embodied robot fleet, as well as management of the Embodied lab space, including parts resupply, organization, and tools storage. You’ll also be responsible for constructing test fixtures from 3D-printed, production, and electrical parts, and you’ll be expected to maintain detailed repair logs and bug lists. Finally, you’ll coordinate the logistics of national and international robot shipments, and periodically travel to perform field repairs.
To qualify for this position, you’ll need a high school diploma or GED and a strong background with electronics and hardware debugging. Embodied is also looking for candidates who have experience working with electro-mechanical systems like robots and drones and 3D printers. As with all Embodied employees, you will also need strong communication skills, a keen attention to detail, and an ability to work as part of a dynamic team.
