Every week, we feature job opportunities at startups in our portfolio as part of a spotlight on the Toyota AI Ventures Talent Network. There are currently more than 275 open positions and, today, we’re focusing on Realtime Robotics, a Boston-based company changing the way machines move through unstructured environments.

Led by CEO Peter Howard, the Realtime Robotics team is developing motion planning and spatial processing systems for robots and autonomous vehicles that need to navigate complex, real-world environments. The company is expanding its operations in Japan and is looking to fill key sales and engineering roles in that region. These positions will be remote to start, with candidates ideally based in Nagoya or Tokyo, Japan.

If you’re a talented individual with the desire to roll up your sleeves and use your ingenuity and inspiration to help bring breakthrough technologies to market, Realtime Robotics is a great place to put your existing skills to the test.

Sales & Business Development Director (Japan): Realtime Robotics is looking for a proven sales and business development executive in Japan, ideally in Nagoya or Tokyo, to lead its expansion efforts. This role is strategically significant to the company and will allow you to help scale and manage Realtime’s efforts in a key market.

As the Sales & Business Development Director, you will help create and nurture partnerships with industrial robotics companies, customers, and system integrators, while growing existing reseller partnerships to enhance regional sales. This position will require you to be responsible for delivering key business results while developing new approaches to the introduction of industrial robotics to new market segments. You will also be required to present sales and business development strategy and results to sales and senior management teams, as well as provide weekly reporting of pipeline and forecast using Salesforce automation tools.

The ideal candidate brings 10+ years of experience in robotics or factory automation, holds an undergraduate degree in engineering or computer science, and has experience selling to large enterprise customers, systems integrators, and automation OEMs. To qualify, you also need a deep knowledge of the robotics industry and the ecosystem of potential buyers in Japan. Since the Sales & Business Development Director will function as an ambassador for the company, experience in representing a U.S.-based technology provider in Japan is also required, as well as native Japanese language skills.

Applications Engineer (Japan): Realtime Robotics is also looking for an experienced Applications Engineer to act as the technical lead for its Japanese business. It’s a perfect opportunity for someone who is comfortable being the voice of the customer within a larger engineering team.

The Application Engineer will work closely with robot OEMs, distributors, and end users, ensuring that the technical needs of customers are heard and addressed internally. The role is also responsible for providing pre- and post-sale technical support to strategic customers and distribution partners via presentations, application development, and a combination of remote and on-site assistance. In addition, you will be tasked with developing customer demos and proof-of-concept projects for field applications.

To qualify, you will need a college degree in computer science, computer engineering, robotics or a related field, and experience with pick-and-place robots or industrial automation. You will also need to be fluent in C++ or Python, as well as projects like OpenCV, PCL, and ROS. Experience with computer vision and robotics perception technologies is desired, and the ability to interact with customers in a fast-paced, startup environment is a must.

If either of these opportunities sound like a good fit for you, and you’d like to play a key role in Realtime Robotics’ operation in Japan, find out more on our jobs board. You can also apply to join the Toyota AI Ventures Talent Network.
