In this week’s Toyota AI Ventures Talent Network spotlight, we explore two important openings at our portfolio company May Mobility, which is dedicated to making transportation safer and more personal through its self-driving microtransit service.

Based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, May Mobility was founded in 2017 by Edwin Olson (CEO), Alisyn Malek (COO), and Steve Vozar (CTO), and the company has already launched its Level 4 self-driving shuttle service on public roads in Detroit, Michigan, Columbus, Ohio, and Providence, Rhode Island — with more locations on the way. With this rapid expansion, May Mobility is looking to fill key engineering and operations positions. Don’t miss this opportunity to make a real-world difference by joining a passionate, values-oriented team that is working with local communities to offer innovative mobility solutions that are safe, personal, and reliable.

Senior Robotics Engineer: May Mobility is currently hiring professionals with a strong background in robotics or autonomous vehicles (AVs) to join its engineering team. As the senior robotics engineer, you would help solve some of the most interesting problems in AVs, working within the MPDM framework.

To qualify, you need a bachelor’s degree in robotics, computer science, or computer engineering (PhD or master’s degree is preferred), and 5+ years of experience working on real-world robot systems. May Mobility is looking for candidates who have developed robotics software in Linux as part of a larger system, and implemented it on at least two commercial projects. You would also be expected to have experience working on some combination of behavior, motion/path planning, POMDP, policy optimization, and computational geometry projects, as well as have strong programming skills in C and familiarity with git, valgrind, and gdb developer tools.

If you’re looking to put machine learning, vision-based localization and mapping, computer vision, and robotics behavior skills into practice, this role is a great opportunity to contribute to AV development in a meaningful way.

Vice President of Finance: May Mobility is hiring an experienced VP of Finance to help the company as it scales. This key role will be responsible for architecting and deploying financial models and strategies to support the startup’s national and international roll-out of AVs. It’s an ideal opportunity for a hands-on expert that loves working in a startup and sees finance as a tool for growth.

In this role, you would interface with lenders to negotiate financing for May Mobility’s fleets and field operations. You would also own the product pricing strategy, and be expected to lead annual budgeting sessions and present financial projections to the board of directors.

May Mobility is looking for someone with exceptional analytical skills and the drive to thrive in a fast-moving startup by learning about every aspect of the business and collaborating with other team members. You should have a bachelor’s degree with at least four years of experience overseeing financial strategy for a growing organization, and prior experience with the manufacturing of products and lending options to help with asset financing and cash flow. Other requirements include familiarity with QuickBooks Online and modeling in Excel.
