Transforming Unused Space into Useful Space: Our Portfolio Company Bumblebee Spaces Is Hiring
Founded in 2017, our portfolio company Bumblebee Spaces combines artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and innovative design to make living spaces more efficient and stylish. Bumblebee’s unique approach centers on building and installing furniture and fixtures that are stored in the ceiling, unlocking previously unused vertical space.
For residents in dense urban areas like San Francisco and New York, where square footage is hard to come by, Bumblebee’s modular system can transform smaller apartments and condos into more functional spaces. Imagine using a mobile app or voice command to lower your bed from the ceiling, or having an AI assistant that retrieves your missing umbrella when you need it.
If you’re inspired by this type of smart home technology and are ready to join a fast-growing startup, Bumblebee Spaces is hiring for several positions in its San Francisco headquarters. Keep reading for more details on two key roles that you can find on the Toyota AI Ventures jobs board: Systems Integration Lead and Operations Program Manager.
Systems Integration Lead (San Francisco):
Bumblebee Spaces is hiring a systems integration lead to scale its software system architecture. The role requires collaboration with industrial designers and engineers to build, evaluate, and integrate software and sensor technologies.
In this role, you’ll own the company’s product roadmap and software architecture, and help mentor a team of engineers to build a world-class software team. It will be your job to prototype new technologies, sensors, and compute platforms to improve system intelligence and safety. You’ll also have the freedom to design and control robot motion and associated embedded systems.
Bumblebee Spaces is looking for candidates with a bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or an associated field. You are the right candidate if you have developed embedded software for robotics, motion control, or sensor integration. The position requires experience in shipping and supporting software at scale to production systems; knowledge of infrastructure, network, security, and monitoring as it relates to designing and managing distributed systems; and a detail-oriented, meticulous approach to your work.
Operations Program Manager (San Francisco):
As the operations program manager for new product introduction, you’ll launch new products into our partners’ factories, and will be responsible for leading technical manufacturing and operational execution from launch. Bumblebee needs someone comfortable using metrics for scheduling, cost, quality, availability, and order cycle time.
In addition, you’ll work with suppliers and engineering teams to develop a manufacturing blueprint for process flows, floor layout, and implementation schedules. The role requires expertise in technical issue resolution, so you’ll need excellent communication skills. The position also requires at least three years of experience working in a factory, and demonstrated managerial expertise overseeing day-to-day operations.
