Based in Pasadena, California, Embodied is using robotics and artificial intelligence to revolutionize human-centric care and wellness. Embodied’s first product is Moxie, a robot companion for children ages 5 to 10 that promotes social, emotional, and cognitive learning.

Embodied joined the Toyota AI Ventures portfolio in 2018, and it has since garnered numerous accolades for its groundbreaking technology. Moxie was recognized by TIME Magazine as one of the Best Inventions of 2020, and was recently featured in Fortune Magazine for “rethinking social development for children.” If you’re interested in advancing human-machine interaction to improve the quality of life for individuals and families, check out these two jobs available on the Toyota AI Ventures jobs board: Robot Systems Software Engineer and Release, Build and Asset Management Engineer.

Robot Systems Software Engineer (Pasadena, CA)

In this role, you will work cross-functionally to help develop and ensure quality in Moxie’s core software systems and contribute to a revolutionary robot experience for children. You will collaborate with the design and engineering teams to realize new and amazing human-robot interaction features for Moxie and improve existing systems. You will also support the hardware team by developing software drivers and algorithms needed to bring new generations of hardware from research and development to production stage. Finally, you can expect to lead test software development for Embodied’s automated fixtures, as well as help maintain and update the testing software for current mass-production builds of Moxie.

The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field, and two or more years of professional software development experience with a large code base. You should demonstrate an ability to develop complex software and applications for Android and/or Linux in two or more of the following software languages: C, C++, Java, C#, or Python. Experience working with Internet of Things or cloud systems and an interest in computer vision, image processing, and OpenCV is a bonus.

Release, Build and Asset Management Engineer (Pasadena, CA)

Embodied is also looking for a release, build and asset management engineer to participate in the development and maintenance of the software development workflow involving application developers, engineers, game designers, and artists. Your primary responsibilities will be to support, improve, and maintain automated processes for application builds, manage the software release process with a focus on continuous integration and continuous development, and maintain and enhance the in-house testing environment. You will also have the opportunity to mentor developers and game designers on best practices for creating a robust, testable software development environment.

At a minimum, you need a bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or other related fields. You should also have three years of professional experience as a build engineer, release engineer, or devops engineer managing digital assets in a version-controlled environment. An excellent grasp of both object-oriented and procedural programming, version control systems (especially git, and associated development workflows), and continuous integration and continuous deployments systems such as Jenkins is a must. Previous experience working with mobile platforms (Android/iOS), embedded systems (e.g., Raspberry Pi), cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure), and/or containerization technologies (e.g Docker, Kubernetes) is strongly preferred, as is knowledge of Swift programming.
