In this week’s Toyota AI Ventures Talent Network spotlight, we highlight two great opportunities at our portfolio company, Boxbot, which builds and operationalizes robotic technology to automate the delivery supply chain.

Founded in 2016 by Austin Oehlerking and Mark Godwin, veteran engineers from Tesla and Uber, Boxbot develops autonomous delivery solutions to address the challenges of last-mile logistics. The Boxbot team believes in using autonomous vehicles (AVs) to significantly reduce delivery costs, traffic congestion, and greenhouse gas emissions by helping commercial drivers handle a growing number of deliveries in a cost-effective, scalable way. They are headquartered in Oakland, CA, and are looking to add key engineering staff in perception and robotics. If you’re a highly-motivated self-starter, Boxbot may be a perfect fit for you.

Software Engineer (Perception): This position leading Boxbot’s growing AV perception team is responsible for designing and implementing the software that enables Boxbot’s autonomous electric vehicles, called Boxbots, to understand and react to a fast-moving, dynamic world. It’s a key role creating the methodologies and processes that allow Boxbots to “think.”

To qualify, you need a college degree (PhD or master’s degree preferred), and 5+ years of experience designing algorithms in perception, computer vision, machine learning, sensor fusion, or classification. Boxbot is scaling quickly, and the team is looking for candidates with previous experience with AVs or mobility-related applications who can demonstrate extensive, real-world results. The company also uses C++, Python, Ubuntu, and ROS, and you would need proficiency with these tools.

Mechanical Design Engineer (Robotics): Boxbot’s hardware engineering team, which is responsible for designing the look and functionality of Boxbots, is hiring a mechanical design engineer to help design their sophisticated material handling automation systems.

To qualify for this role, you need a master’s degree, or a bachelor’s degree with equivalent work experience (ideally, 5+ years performing complex mechanical design tasks). You would also need to be familiar with material handling automation systems or similar robotics systems, and have experience using CAD software in multi-user, production-style environments. A strong understanding of electromechanical systems and basic power electronics is required, as well.

Visit our jobs board for more information, and to apply for either of these roles.

These are just two of the positions that Boxbot and other startups in our portfolio are looking to fill. Apply here to join the Toyota AI Ventures Talent Network for free. Request private introductions to portfolio companies, and find your next life-changing career.
