Philadelphia-based Burro is tackling the challenge of farm labor shortages with collaborative autonomous robots. Inspired by the experience of growing up on a farm, Burro co-founder and CEO Charlie Andersen’s goal is to automate tedious farm labor first, boosting overall productivity through collaboration with humans.

A recent addition to the Toyota Ventures portfolio, Burro offers an autonomous mobility platform that follows workers around, navigating autonomously while carrying their cargo. Using a combination of computer vision, GPS, and artificial intelligence, Burro automates a critical aspect of crop collection.

These robots are the first step in the Burro team’s plan to expand services that farmers need everyday. If you’re interested in innovative agriculture tech, check out these exciting opportunities available on the Toyota Ventures jobs board: VP of Engineering and VP of Growth.

Reporting to Burro’s chief technology officer, you will collaborate on developing and executing the technical vision for Burro. You are expected to manage and grow the team by fostering a culture of excellence, recruiting well-rounded software engineers, and mentoring and developing talent. Other responsibilities include driving product alignment with business objectives, developing and installing engineering best practices, and championing engineering and operational excellence.

The ideal candidate has a computer science degree or its equivalent, as well as ten or more years of experience in the software product industry. Deep experience with Agile development methodologies and familiarity with modern engineering practices is required.

VP of Growth (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania)

The vice president of growth is responsible for developing the company’s revenue strategy in collaboration with the leadership team. Evaluating business development opportunities and partnerships is part of the role, and you’ll need to refine the strategy and the product roadmap accordingly. You will also collaborate with engineers to understand technology and assess industries and markets.

You should have a bachelor’s degree in a related field, as well as a master’s degree in business administration. In addition, you should have at least five years of experience in an analytical role in consulting, venture capital, private equity, or corporate strategy. Agtech and/or robotics sales experience is also needed, and startup experience is preferred. Ideally, you are an outstanding team contributor who can lead cross-functional teams.
