Based in Oakland, California, Boxbot is enabling faster and more efficient e-commerce delivery by bringing autonomous technology to first-, middle-, and last-mile deliveries. By leveraging robotics technology for storage and retrieval, Boxbot has developed the proprietary Boxbot Sorting Execution System that streamlines the delivery process. Boxbot’s automated hub makes it more cost-effective for retailers to offer fast, low-cost shipping for next-day and same-day delivery to consumers.

Boxbot joined the Toyota Ventures portfolio in 2018. If you’re interested in making last-mile delivery faster and more efficient than ever before, check out these two jobs available on the Toyota Ventures jobs board: senior mechanical engineer and senior software engineer for robotics and automation systems.

Senior Mechanical Engineer (Oakland, CA)

In this role, you will design Boxbot’s state-of-the-art automated systems hub built for last-mile delivery. You will work cross-functionally with controls engineers and electrical engineers throughout the design and build process, as well as iterate on new systems. By utilizing CAD software for hands-on prototyping and interfacing with third-party machine shops and suppliers, you will be at the forefront of designing sophisticated material-handling automation systems that will revolutionize the logistics industry.

The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s or master’s degree, along with five or more years of mechanical design experience with automation or robotic systems and more than one year of experience with material-handling systems, warehouse automation, or a similar domain. Previous experience with design for low- and medium-scale manufacturing using CAD software in a multi-user, production-style environment is a must. A fluent understanding of actuators and electromechanical systems and a basic grasp of control systems and electronics is also desired.

Senior Software Engineer — Robotics and Automation Systems (Oakland, CA)

As a robotics and automation systems software engineer, you will develop and deliver robust and reliable warehouse automation and control software for Boxbot’s advanced material-handling facility. You will work within the software engineering team to drive the design of server-level applications that coordinate actions of dozens of subsystems. Specifically, you will design, develop, and debug low-latency data-processing systems in a compiled server-side language (C++) to monitor and control automation robotics. You will also drive the development of a high-performance warehouse execution system with an eye towards scalability, modularity, robustness, and tight integrations with the hardware.

At a minimum, you need a bachelor’s degree and five or more years of professional experience developing and deploying production-level robotics and automation systems. Previous experience designing distributed data-processing systems using compiled server languages (preferably C++) and cloud computing infrastructure (AWS, Google Cloud, Docker, etc.) is necessary. A master’s degree or higher in computer science, along with experience with test-driven development is strongly preferred. Prior startup experience and an entrepreneurial mindset is a bonus.
