Boston-based Realtime Robotics is tackling a major problem in automation: how to allow robots to quickly respond to changes in a workcell, while simultaneously avoiding collisions with other robots. Using a combination of proprietary software and hardware, the company’s platform enables real-time, collision-free motion planning in dynamic, unstructured environments — significantly reducing programming time and costs. Watch this video to learn more about how Realtime’s technology works.

Part of the Toyota AI Ventures portfolio since 2017, the team has recently announced new partnerships and is now hiring for several key roles. Read on to learn more about these two roles on the Toyota AI Ventures jobs board: DevOps engineer and system QA test technician.

DevOps Engineer (Boston, Massachusetts)

In this role, you lead software engineering support efforts, ensuring that engineers can work effectively and resolving any issues that arise. Reporting to the senior director of software engineering, you will perform software release engineering, package maintenance, and troubleshooting. You will need to install and upgrade computer components and software, manage virtual servers, and integrate automation processes. You will also provide communication and documentation to relevant staff for planning, implementing, or maintaining infrastructure. Other responsibilities include backup operations, data protection, and disaster recovery.

The ideal candidate has at least four years of experience with Linux, and a working knowledge of Linux containers and shell scripting. Ansible experience is a plus. You should have a strong understanding of systems and networking software. You will also need to have basic knowledge of Jenkins and familiarity with the complete software lifecycle. A bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, system administration, or a closely related field is required (equivalent experience may be substituted).

System QA Test Technician (Boston, Massachusetts)

The system QA test technician is primarily responsible for performing test cases based on documented instructions, determining results, and recording outcomes. In this role, you will communicate and troubleshoot issues with the test and development teams in person and through documentation in JIRA. Testing responsibilities include graphical interfaces, robotic perception systems, network applications and communication, and robot motion. As testing involves both simulated and real-world environments, an in-office presence is required.

Realtime Robotics’ ideal candidate is a self-motivated individual with QA testing experience and familiarity with Linux, Python, and bash scripting. To succeed in this role, you will need strong written and verbal communication skills and an eye for detail. You should also be comfortable working in a hands-on environment. Applicants with an associate’s degree or higher in a technical field and experience with Robot Operating System (ROS) are preferred.
