Based in Los Angeles, California, Universal Hydrogen aims to make carbon-fuel flight a reality by easing the distribution of hydrogen. Universal Hydrogen produces modular capsules for hydrogen, which are then transported through the existing freight network of roads, railways, and waterways. Once loaded onto an aircraft, the capsules act as a gas tank. Regional planes can be retrofitted with hydrogen-electric powertrain conversion kits offered by Universal Hydrogen.

Universal Hydrogen joined the Toyota Ventures portfolio earlier this year, and the team is growing very quickly. Led by co-founder and CEO Paul Eremenko, Universal Hydrogen is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion and is building a company culture that is empowered, collaborative, open, and human-centered. The company recently announced a sponsorship of the Society of Women Engineers and the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, and the leadership team believes that diversity is not just a moral, but a business imperative — with the highest-performing teams bringing together people with different backgrounds, mindsets, and contexts to solve the toughest challenges.

You will be the technical authority for electrical system designs and architectures. Responsibilities will include developing system requirements for electrical systems, designing systems with architectures and interfaces that meet all requirements, and developing, managing, and interpreting testing for the purpose of risk mutation. You will also design system-to-system components and processes and support the development and optimization of high-voltage components.

The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field and at least three years of relevant work experience. You should have proven experience in high-voltage electric systems for transportation applications, plus experience in one or more of the following areas: high voltage design, combined HV and LV architecture, DC/DC and AC/DC power conversion, wire harnesses, EMI mitigation, or electric motors. You should also have experience creating system specifications, high voltage electrical systems architecture and wiring schematics, system safety assessments, failure hazard analysis, and certification test plans. Proven proficiency with a variety of related test and measurement equipment is needed. A master’s degree in a related field is a plus.
