What do you eat before you are about to compete in a track meet? That depends on what you are doing in the track meet, for instance what you eat if you are competing in a throwing event is going to be very different than what you should eat if you are running the 3200 (the two mile). If you are competing in a throwing event than it would be more beneficial to you if you eat something that is going to give you protein. A turkey or roast beef sandwich is a great option. Remember you don’t want to eat too much otherwise you will feel sluggish, you want to eat the right amount to fuel you but not too much that it makes you feel extremely full. If you are competing an in event that requires you to be light and explosive, this is any event from high jump and log jump to the 100–400, you need to get light. One competing in these events does not require so much protein before competing as the throwers do. It is most beneficial to consume carbs right before you run this way they can quickly be burned and used for energy as you are running. If you are competing in a long distance event, this can be anything from the 800–3200, you need to consume protein and carbs but you need to consume it about an hour or two efore you run, this way it has time to digest in your stomach and will still give you the nutrients that you need. Whatever you are running the most important thing to do is drink water!
