Short Sighted, Short Lived

When you’re first starting up a company, you’re often in day-to-day survival mode. You’re thinking through the countless things that need to get done that day so that your company can maybe survive till next week. This mindset might be a necessary evil in the early days before you’ve made your first hire, but it’s also a trap. If founders only think days ahead instead of years ahead, then they build short-sighted (and often short-lived) startups. Make sure you focus on the long term when building your company, and have your staff focus on the short term, day-to-day operations. Even if you don’t have staff yet, make sure you have a long term vision in mind and aren’t only lost in the day-to-day work needed to get the company built.
