TF2 Scout Guide — How to Play

Team Fortress 2 features nine classes, and the Scout is one of the most slippery. Here we talk how to play with TF2 Scout. Despite his low HP, a Scout is very hard to kill if he knows how to abuse his advantages. But to play this class well, you need to understand how it works and what it’s good at.

How to Play the Scout in TF2

Playing the Scout in TF2 requires constant movement. If you’re standing still, you have no advantage over other classes. The Scout was enhanced with high movement speed because he’s supposed to gather information and kill static targets that have a hard time hitting fast enemies.

The Scout’s movement speed is 133%. Compared to a Heavy (77%), he is very fast and will do a great job moving past enemy lines and finding Engineers, Snipers, Demomans, and even Medics. When you play this class, you are supposed to be as annoying as possible.

The Scout excels against most of the other classes. The Pyro, for example, cannot lay a glove on him because he’s not fast enough. The Demoman, because of his low rate of fire, also struggles against the Scout. Because he misses his first few shots in most cases, and by the time he starts to deal damage, he’s already dead.

In a TF2 match, teams will try to create an unbreakable position on the map and fortify it with fighters and automated guns. Your job, as the Scout, is to ruin conniving plans made at the back of the enemy line and never to put yourself into a corner.

The Scout’s Loadout

The Scout has low HP (125) and relatively poor weapons such as the Scattergun, which don’t deal that much damage and can only be used from close range. These are the disadvantages of this class and why it’s best to use it for complementary purposes and not for the primary battle in the map’s center.

You cannot outgun the enemy team using the Scout. But you can create big problems in the back line.

The Scattergun deals 60 / 180 damage. Other guns deal a bit more crit damage and come with all kinds of buffs and debuffs. You should experiment with every option and decide how to play the game. The complete list of options is listed below:

You can use more melee weapons, but I won’t list them here. You should start with the primary weapons and learn at least two or three playstyles.
